Cocktails have come a long way in the last few years, light years in fact away from the holiday Pina-Colada! Sassy, sexy cocktails are now all grown up, and with so many of us drinking them, there has been an explosion of cocktails designed specifically for the boys – well men actually!
Sexy Cocktails for Men
Whatever you are drinking, we hope you are doing it in sexy company, in a stylish environment and looking fantastic – here are a few of these cocktails designed specifically for men. Let us know what you think!
The Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned is a classic bourbon cocktail that even lends its name to the short glass it is served in but can also be made with any type of whiskey. Canadian whiskey can offer a slightly sweeter version while rye whiskey offers something unusual.
To make it you need to put a sugar cube in a glass then add 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters and a splash of soda water. Muddle until the sugar is dissolved – you can use a spoon or a proper muddler. Then fill the glass with ice, add 4.5 cl of bourbon or other whiskey. It is typically garnished with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
Tom Collins
For a cooling longer drink, the Tom Collins is a perfect option, severed in a tall and slender glass often known as a Collins glass. You need 1.5 ounces of gin and half an ounce of simple syrup along with the juice of half a lemon and soda water to finish. Simple syrup is also known as sugar syrup and can be bought in the supermarket or made by mixing a cup of water over heat and stirring in the same amount of sugar.
Add the gin, syrup and lemon in a shaker then strain into the glass with ice and top with the soda water. Garnish is an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. A Vodka Collins swaps gin for vodka while a Juan Collins uses tequila and a Rum Collins obviously uses rum. Leave out the soda water and you have made a basic Whiskey Sour.
The Manhattan
This is a simple, three ingredient cocktail that has spawned many variations. To make the classic, you need three parts whiskey to one part sweet red vermouth and a dash of bitters, Angostura or Peychaud’s are both good. All the ingredients are added to a cocktail shaker and shaken until very cold. Add it to a cocktail glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
If you change the whiskey for Scotch, it is known as a Rob Roy while it you swap whiskey to brandy, the drink is known as a Metropolitan. If you find the taste a little tart, add a touch of the juice from the cherry to sweeten a little.
The Martini
Probably one of the most famous cocktails in the world, the Martini has led to loads of variations. The classic variation uses four parts gin to one part dry vermouth and is added to a cocktail glass and stirred. Lemon juice is squeezed over and it is garnished with a green olive. But there are probably dozens of variations including the Vodka Martini with vodka replacing the gun and a Dirty Martini where the olive brine is added to the drink.
